Krav Maga: Self Defence Israeli style
‘Krav Maga” it sound like a Scottish curse mutters my friend. Why would you teach something called that for a living ? I said nothing more, I had similar responses in the past. No one knows what it is or where it comes from – the difficult bit is always introducing the word. But the thing is, Krav Maga offers something at least 80% of the population want. A fast and effective way of learning how to defend yourself.
The UK is becoming increasing uncertain. We dont want vigilantes on the streets but most of us want the peace of mind that comes with training in something gritty and realistic. It’s a cliché really – none of us wants to fight – but we don’t want to be seen as easy victims either.
So, in addition to CrossFit, I am a professional trainer of an Israeli Self Defence system called Krav Maga. It’s not a martial art – Krav Maga practitioners are quite touchy and more than a little insistant on that point. Krav Maga strives to distance its self from the whole angry white pyjama movement. Its a self-protection system from Israel.
Krav Maga is the hand to hand combat system used to turn ordinary civillians into combat ready troops in around 21 hours. Yes thats right – 21 hours. What is increasingly impressive is that Krav Maga is viewed as such an effective and fast to learn system of self defence its now taught to over 500 military and Law Enforcement Agencies across the globe. In short – if it dangerous – there are probably Krav Maga trained personelle there.
What can Krav Maga offer the ordinary man or woman on the street ?
Krav Maga offers a unique skill set to trained practitioners. Its fast to learn, and rapid to assimilate the basic principles. People of average fitness and ability can learn usable and effective skills within 3 months. But most importantly – Krav Maga is a street system. You might not learn spinning kicks, forms or animal style kung fu. You will learn punches, throws and kicks and how to deal with street weapons and incidents such as happy slapping, mugging glassings stabbings. One of the first skills learned is how to stop a knife attack and what to do if you are knocked on the ground.

Particularly appealing is the fact that you dont have to spend a life time doing it and most of the reactions are based on natural, instinctive reactions.
